An extra-ordinary book about the oceans, by a poet, adventurer and philosopher.  James Hamilton Paterson  once lived alone on an island in the South China Seas with no indigenous water supply for months, spending his time diving for fish and talking to pirates (real ones, that is).  He has also written some of the best comedy of the last twenty years.  And he writes about the human relationship with the sea from the perspective of an animal that has quite recently pulled itself out of the water, and has an abiding and mostly hopeless yeaning to get back into it again.  He is my current writing hero, do please read this and his other books.
