Thanks for everyone who has sent a kind message about my being awarded an MBE. I am quite astonished, but very touched and moved. The award is a testament to the efforts of thousands of creative and courageous people working every day in the environment movement, including many I am lucky enough to know as friends and colleagues. The world’s oceans, forests, climate, lakes and rivers are a precious inheritance; we depend upon them for our survival, and they are a source of continuing wonder and delight for billions of people. This award gives me (and I hope will give others) great encouragement in the continuing struggle to protect them.
